The Motor-town music group Deuces Wild will go down in history being known more for their income tax fraud schemes than their rap music. The group gained some notoriety in 2010 for their debut album, Runway Music, that included the quasi-hit song “Cash.” And that is exactly what one of Deuces Wild lead singers, Samerrah Marrell, aka Crème, stole from the U.S. taxpayers. She stole $8.5 million from an income tax return scheme. Fraud is more lucrative than record royalties.

From 2014 to 2022, targeting the Income Revenue Service and State Treasury Departments of Minnesota, Maryland, Arizona, Georgia, Connecticut, and Colorado, Marrell filed one hundred and twenty-two fraudulent income tax returns for estates and trusts. The false filings claimed that the IRS and state tax agencies withheld large amounts and that those trusts were therefore entitled to large refunds of the supposed excess income tax withheld. Marrell made up companies called Lucid Communication Trust and For Weaves, and along with using stolen identities she sought almost $30 million in fraudulent refunds.

In total, she successfully stole almost $8.5 million in fraudulent refunds, which she spent sustaining the high life as a rapper. Crème de la crème for this fraudster. State records show that Marrell had registered six luxury vehicles estimated to be worth about $500,000 collectively. They include two Bentleys, a Porsche, a Mercedes-Benz, a Range Rover, and a Cadillac Escalade.

Crème should have stuck with rap music. She was sentenced on February 24, 2023 to four years in prison.

Outstanding job by the Internal Revenue Service in this investigation.

Today’s Fraud Of The Day is based on article “Detroit rapper sentenced in multimillion-dollar tax fraud scheme” published by Detroit Free Press on February 24, 2023

A female rapper, who was half of the duo called Deuces Wild, was sentenced in federal court in Detroit to more than four years in prison for her role in the filing of 122 phony income tax returns that attempted to steal more than $27 million in state and federal refund cash.

Sameerah Marrell, 42, formerly of Detroit, pleaded guilty on Jan. 11 to mail fraud, wire fraud and committing an offense on bond. She had been arrested in Tennessee in early December after living as a fugitive for more than a month, according to earlier news media reports.
