Historically the primary source of income for some criminal gangs has been drug distribution and illicit firearms sales. Well, it’s all about supply and demand and expanding your business reach. Word on the street is that gangs are now selling fake green cards and social security cards to illegal aliens right on the street corners in Queens. And they aren’t trying to hide it.
According to the NY Post, they saw at least ten individuals in broad daylight at four different street corners selling bogus documents for $80 to $250. Roosevelt Ave, an area once known for prostitution, is known as the epicenter of fake IDs on the East Coast. Not sure which is better. But the gangs are certainly making it easy to get fake IDs for illegal aliens, creating a “one-stop shop” for them. Some gangs running the ID mills also aid in smuggling illegal aliens.
Fake documents allow migrants to open bank accounts, obtain a driver’s license, or get a job. Pretty sure not all of them are looking for jobs. Why not file for unemployment benefits? One former law enforcement official says that besides being illegal, those who obtain such identification may have much more nefarious intentions. You mean nefarious intentions like the gangs selling fake identities? Yes.
According to Bruce Fourcart, a former special agent in charge at the Department of Homeland Security. Someone who obtains such identification “could load a truck up with bombs…and bring it underneath the Holland Tunnel and create something major and disastrous.” While these documents are fake, the numbers are real. This affects all U.S. citizens.
Shout out to the New York Police Department who are fighting this uphill battle.
