Back in April 2025, Washington County troopers made a traffic stop where the driver, Shannon Womack, allegedly gave the troopers fake identification, in lieu of handing over her own license. Funny how one little, tiny traffic stop can change everything. Not just for the fraudster behind the wheel, but for any and all stolen identities found in the car. And Womak had a trunk full of them.

After a search warrant on her vehicle was executed, investigators allegedly found that Womak had in her car 20 different aliases along with seven different Social Security numbers. And also, prescription medications prescribed to different victims, medical documents and various pieces of medical equipment – an odd mix of findings, but not for Womak who was using the identities to run various schemes including working as a nurse. Actually, beginning as early as 2020, Womack, using stolen identities, already posed as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse and registered nurse supervisor at multiple rehabilitation and nursing home facilities throughout Pennsylvania.

Womack allegedly was able to secure these nursing positions through staffing agencies by submitting fraudulently signed documents as employment verification. But she had also created her nurse staffing agency LLC to self-deploy herself to multiple jobs. She only hired herself, in all positions. After answering the phone and taking the job posting, she took the nursing opportunity under a stolen identity.

On July 23, 2025, Womack was charged with 43 counts including endangering the welfare of a care-dependent person, identity theft, forgery and falsely pretending to hold a license. Her bail was set at $250,000. Her next court appearance was scheduled for July 29.

Shout out to the Pennsylvania State Police in this case.

Today’s Fraud of the Day is based on article “Woman accused of using 20 aliases, 7 Social Security numbers to pose as a nurse in Pennsylvania, according to police” published by WNEP 16 news on July 23, 2025.

The Pennsylvania State Police are requesting that healthcare agencies and providers review their employment records after a woman used multiple aliases and different Social Security numbers to fraudulently secure nursing positions throughout the state.

Back in April, troopers did a traffic stop on a Mercedes-Benz along Interstate 79 in Washington County, and the driver, Shannon Womack, 39, of Pittsburgh, gave troopers fake identification. Police say an investigation revealed that 20 different aliases and seven different Social Security numbers were linked to Womack. Numerous forms of ID, prescription medications prescribed to different victims, medical documents, and pieces of medical equipment were found after a search warrant on her vehicle.
