One Last Piece of Advice

Between 2014 and 2018, Rodney L. Yentzer assumed control of various medical practices, all to be merged under the name Pain Medicine of York (PMY). Some of the medical practices he took control of included a group of clinics run by John H. Johnson, who was just about ready to start a seven-year prison sentence for various tax offenses. From the onset, Yentzer apparently had been heeding Johnson’s advice on various subjects. But Johnson had one more piece of advice for Yentzer as he was heading to jail: always order multiple urine tests for each patient on every visit – a solid way to potentially take millions of dollars from the U.S. taxpayer in fraudulent claims. A definite way to be sentenced to years in prison for fraud if caught.

From 2017 to 2019, Pain Medicine of York (PMY) billed Medicare for $10 million for urine drug tests of which Medicare paid out $4 million. The Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program was also billed for those tests. Johnson’s advice didn’t come free though. Yentzer put Johnson’s wife on the PMY payroll, even though she didn’t perform legitimate work. Yentzer was also purchasing cars on behalf of the Johnsons, contributing to their children’s college funds, and paying legal bills. It supposedly allowed for Johnson to benefit from the fraud proceeds without them being seized by the government for restitution payments.

In 2019, PMY was shut down after a law enforcement raid. But that didn’t stop Yentzer from fraudulently filing for and receiving more than $191,000 in Health and Human Services stimulus money that was intended for health care providers who had health care related expenses and lost revenues attributable to COVID-19.

On April 24, 2025, Yentzer was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for Medicare fraud and COVID-19 relief fraud.

Great job by the Drug Enforcement Administration Diversion Control Program, and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.

Today’s Fraud of The Day is based on article “Former York County clinic owner defrauded Medicare, COVID funds” published by ABC27 News on April 24, 2025.

The former owner of York Pain Management has been sentenced to 42 months in prison after admitting to defrauding Medicare and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2016 to 2022.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said Rodney L. Yentzer, 55, formerly of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges of healthcare fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and theft of public money.
